This is Wikipedia’s definition of a spiritual gift:

“In Christianity, a spiritual gift is an endowment which may be given by the Holy Spirit. These are the supernatural graces which individual Christians need to fulfill the mission of the Church.  In the narrowest sense, it is a theological term for the extraordinary graces given to individual Christians for the good of others.”

Do you know your spiritual gift?

When I started working here at Acts 2 almost nine years ago, I began a new journey with my family…We started going to church. Before that, I had never known where I stood in my beliefs or what my purpose in life was. At the time, my husband Greg and I already had a 3-year-old and I was pregnant with my second daughter Abbie. We knew being involved in a church was what we both wanted for our family, but I wasn’t fluent in “church.” I didn’t know much, but I wanted to learn along with my children.

While working as the nursery coordinator at Acts 2, I developed relationships with my staff, the parents of our congregation and the children of our community. I had always considered myself patient, caring and a good listener. I had also always had a connection with babies and children. Growing up, I babysat and worked at a camp for physically handicapped children and I graduated college with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Those things had always come easy for me, but never once did I think that God gave me this gift!

So, when I was approached to become the Co-Director of our Children’s Day Out (CDO), it was an easy decision. I get to help teachers develop age-appropriate activities and crafts and I get to interact with and encourage the parents and children of our program. I know now that God was leading me to a job that I would love and enjoy to no end!

Looking back at the definition of a spiritual gift: “In the narrowest sense, it is a theological term for the extraordinary graces given to individual Christians for the good of others.”

I know now that my spiritual gift is to be there for our growing families in any way possible and to help them find their own spiritual gifts.
