Dear Acts 2 and One Church members, please see the important message below from our Staff Parish Relations Committee (SPRC).

I have some sad news to deliver to the Acts 2 and One Church family. I also have a few pieces of great news to report. In this case, it’s all the same news.

First the sad news. Andy and Melissa Nelms are making plans to move to Texas.
Rev. Andy Nelms has been the One Church Campus Pastor since it was founded in 2016. Melissa Nelms has been on staff as Youth Director and most recently as the Director of Discipleship. Andy and Melissa informed SPRC that they will be moving to North Texas this summer for Melissa to attend Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. It’s sad news to report.

Andy and Melissa have had a monumental impact on our community in too many ways to count. We will miss them tremendously. However, there is also a lot to celebrate.

The decision Andy and Melissa are making is a faithful step of obedience in their call for Melissa to also receive her Master of Divinity. In 2018, the Acts 2 Administrative Council unanimously recommended Melissa as a candidate for ministry. The church made that recommendation because we know how well she will cultivate more Christ followers throughout her life. We are closely connected to her call, and we are happy to see the Nelms family continue to follow the path to grow the Kingdom. That’s great news.

We also want to celebrate the professionalism and selflessness Andy has shown as we plan the next steps for Acts 2 and One Church. Andy has built an amazing community with One Church and has expressed his desire to ensure its future success by walking alongside SPRC, the Administrative Council and Dr. Rev. Mark Foster, our founding pastor, as we transition to our second campus pastor of One Church. That collaborative work will help us continue to grow. That’s great news.

And finally, we celebrate the appointment of Rev. John Vick as the next One Church campus pastor. Many of you already know John from his time on staff at One Church. We are grateful to District Superintendent Rev. Dr. Rockford Johnson, the bishop and the cabinet for this strategic appointment. We are thrilled to receive him.

John will return to us on March 1 to begin working with Andy as Andy passes the leadership baton to John over the next four months. SPRC is thankful that Andy and John will be able to work so closely together for a smooth and successful transition in pastoral leadership. That is great news.

We look forward to what the Holy Spirit will do to write the next chapter of One Church and the Nelms family. Please join us in praying for Andy, Melissa, and John in this time of transition.

And in our last bit of good news, we still have four months to worship and work with Andy and Melissa before they move. We will celebrate the Nelms family’s five years of ministry with us on Friday, June 21 and Sunday, June 23.
