Wednesdays, 6:30-8:00pm
Beginning September 4
Led by Bobbie Seaton & Michael Andres

Everyone has a place at Jesus’ table, and one of our responsibilities as his followers is to make sure everyone finds their place at it. This means we need to be intentional and welcoming in how we live, and especially so in how we use our words. We often struggle to have honest conversations about race and racism, and our hope in offering this class is to create a safe and vulnerable space for us to share and hear stories, to grow in our understanding of the power of our words, and grow in our ability to be place-makers at God’s table.

We will use “Courageous Discomfort: How to Have Important, Brave, Life-Changing Conversations about Race and Racism” as our primary resource along with additional writings from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Annette Gordon-Reed, Jim Wallis, and others. With the questions, reflections, speeches, and stories we’ll read, we’ll share in conversation about what the scriptures say, what we’ve each experienced in our lives, and what we’re witnessing in the world today.

Facilitated by Bobbie Seaton and Michael Andres, this 6-week class begins on Wednesday, September 4 as a part of Acts 2 University. Each evening will begin with a free meal in the Gym located in Building C from 5:45 – 6:25pm. Programming for children and youth occurs at the same time as our class, and free childcare is provided for infants through 3 year olds. For more information, please contact Bobbie or Michael, and you can register for the class in the space below.
