Adam and I both grew up in church, but we had never been members of a church as a married couple. When our son Will was 2-years-old and I was pregnant with Jake, we decided it was time to find a church home in Edmond.
After googling “United Methodist churches near me,” we visited several churches in the area and finally came to a service at Acts 2. We felt comfortable with the childcare the moment we arrived, and it seemed like Mark was speaking directly to us through his sermons. The fact that we left church every Sunday discussing the sermon made it feel useful and applicable to our lives.
We also saw the potential of a “church family” here. We saw people with friendly faces that looked like we might have something in common with (read: young kids!). As our kids have grown, so has our involvement. This includes directing Vacation Bible School, helping start a MOPS ministry and participating and serving on many committees.
As our church has grown, so has our willingness as a church body to meet the changing needs of our congregation. We are so excited about the vision to expand our facilities. The thought of our church having its very own gym makes us almost giddy. Some of Adam’s favorite memories as a teenager were going to his friend’s church gym where they would have a short devotion and then play basketball for hours! I love to think about that for our kids. Maybe someday, one of their friends could have the same great memories! I also remember wishing our church had its own children’s day out when our kiddos were young. I love that we have fulfilled that dream as well!
Acts 2 has impacted our lives so much in the past 9 years, and I can only hope that we can share that joy for years to come!
